Large decorative bowl turned from flamed and spalted beech, with wide rim decorated with a patinated bronze effect.
The broad rim of this flamed beech platter has been randomly textured then decorated with bronze reactive metal paint and blue patina spray to create an aged bronze finish. It frames the naturally finished inner bowl which exhibits a striking, flamed grain pattern. The outside of the platter has hand-carved scalloping and has also been left natural to create a beautiful contrast with the rim. The platter sits on a narrow foot which creates the illusion of a floating platter.
The rim has been finished with satin lacquer to seal the paint, the inner bowl has been finished with Odie's Oil and the outside of the bowl has been finished with carnauba wax.
Woody's Words -"I love to experiment with colour and texture and the acquisition of the reactive metal paints lead to the union of both these aspects of what I enjoy. See blog post
for more information about the production of this piece. The inspiration for the scalloping came from the numerous shells we have on display in our bathroom."
